More than $22 million in funding for Northwest Indiana projects has been included in the U.S. House Appropriations Committee's Fiscal Year 2023 measures.

Several million would go toward environmental improvements, according to a press release from U.S. Representative Frank Mrvan's office. That includes $4.5 million for water, sewer and stormwater infrastructure upgrades; $2.7 million for shoreline restoration at the Indiana Dunes National Park; more than one million dollars for improvements at the Michigan City Harbor; and more than $900,000 to upgrade the Burns Waterway Small Boat Harbor.

Some police departments would also get funding for new equipment, including body and car cameras for the Gary Police Department and license plate readers for the Whiting Police Department.

Other big ticket requests include $4 million dollars to help the Gary/Chicago International Airport expand and construct a heavy cargo logistics apron and almost $2.4 million to help the city of Portage reconstruct Central Avenue.
