SSL is offering free rides to make travel easier for those who give back to the community daily.

Next Monday through Friday, the last two eastbound trains serving South Bend Airport will be replaced by buses from Carroll Avenue to South Bend.

"We want to know from the folks who are not riding the service what factors they take into account for making that choice to ride or to not ride," said NICTD's Kelly Wenger.

"So it's going to require some additional taking up some work that was already completed and then putting in the proper isolation and then putting the track back in," Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District President Mike Noland told the NICTD Board on Wednesday.

On Friday, westbound trains will drop off passengers at 18th Street at 4:53, 5:22 and 5:47 p.m. Eastbound trains will pick up passengers there at 11:21 p.m. and 12:51 a.m.

South Shore Line fares are going up. The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District Board approved a 10-percent fare hike Wednesday.

Work on the West Lake Corridor commuter rail branch is set to clear a major hurdle next week.

Westbound trains will drop off passengers at 18th Street at 5:18 and 6:50 p.m. Eastbound trains will pick up passengers there at 10:25 p.m., 11:30 p.m. and 12:50 a.m.
