Indiana Connected By 25

Today:  We find out more about a special summer learning program to be held at Purdue University Northwest in Hammond.  A group of about 50 Hoosier foster youth from across the state will spend the next eight weeks beginning Friday in the Summer Bridge Program.  These youth will stay in residence halls and study on campus, as they learn skills that will help them adjust to life from foster homes to life -- on their own --in college.

Stephanie Powe is Director of Education Strategies with the nonprofit "Indiana Connected by 25."  The Summer Bridge Program sponsored by "Indiana Connected by 25" with assistance from Ivy Tech Community College, Purdue Northwest and the Indiana Department of Child Services.

The Indiana Black Legislative Caucus get ready for another series of summertime meetings across the state aimed at, in part, convincing Hoosiers that similar issues affect rural as well as urban neighborhoods.  One of the meetings will be held on August 19th at Indiana University Northwest in Gary.

Lakeshore Public Radio's Steven Lattimore reports on a special celebration this coming November to mark the 50th anniversary of Richard Hatcher's being elected Mayor of Gary -- in 1967, the first black mayor of a  U.S. city.

And "CounterPoint" host Garrard McClendon and guests take up the question: what is the truth?
