New leaders named for Portage city departments

CITY OF PORTAGE, IN

A few Portage city government departments have new leaders. Mayor Sue Lynch told the city council last week that the sanitary plant superintendent, building commissioner, and chief deputy clerk-treasurer are all retiring this month.

"She's one, I think, of two female sanitary superintendents in the entire state. So I'm very proud of her, and I know that she's going to do a great job," Lynch told council members.

Meanwhile, Richard Jones began working as building commissioner during the last week of December.

"He was a sheet metal worker for over 30 years. So he has been in the business, and we're all there to see him succeed."

Both are expected to be officially sworn in during the February Portage City Council meeting.
