Ivy Tech's Lake County Campus gets $323,000 federal talent search grant

Ivy Tech Community College

Ivy Tech is getting some federal funding to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds finish college. Ivy Tech's Lake County Campus has gotten more than $323,420 from the U.S. Department of Education's Talent Search Program. That will be used "to provide academic, career, and financial counseling," according to an announcement from U.S. Representative Frank Mrvan's office.

Louie Gonzalez, the chancellor of Ivy Tech's Lake County Campus, said in a statement that grants like this "are critical in meeting the needs of our community and students who are working to improve their lives through education." Gonzalez said the funding helps the school serve almost 600 first-generation students in the Gary area.
