Valparaiso moving forward with funding arrangements for sports complex

Valparaiso is moving ahead with efforts to get READI funds for its new 248-acre park. The board of works last week agreed to let city development director George Douglas submit the necessary grant paperwork to the Northwest Indiana Forum.

"We've received, sort of, preliminary approval on a $4.7 million grant, and so this is now the formal submittal of that grant," Douglas explained.

The Valparaiso Community Recreation & Sports Complex would bring new sports fields, walking trails and other features to the city's east side. Some of the funding for the project was included in the Northwest Indiana Forum's plans for $50 million from the state's READI program. The city is also using $4.7 million in federal American Rescue Plan money to reimburse the cost of purchasing the property.
