Concerns raised with proposed Portage subdivision

CITY OF PORTAGE, IN

Plans for a new Portage subdivision face an uncertain future with the city council.

Olthof Homes wants to build a mix of town homes and paired cottage homes, totaling about 130 units, south of Lute Road, between the Breckenridge Apartments and Roswell Drive. For that to happen, the city council has to rezone the land from low-density to multi-family residential development.

Council member Collin Czilli says that while he's O.K. with the site plan, he has some issues with the developer. "I've got to say — I am not inclined to support this development with Olthof being the developer because . . . residents have reached out to me ever since Hidden Waters has been developed, and it's been nothing but problems over there," Czilli said during Tuesday's council meeting.

The proposal has already gone through a few changes during discussions with the plan commission, which ultimately supported the rezoning by a vote of 5-to-3. Council members plan to discuss it further with Olthof representatives next month, before making a final decision.
