HIGHLAND PARK, IL - Besides Ravinia being magical in itself, audience members seemed truly delighted by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons at the Friday, September 8th show. Of course many songs were shorter in length in the 60's and I think there were about 26 (or so) performed in the set list.
Of course... again it's not about quantity, it's quality and that's what the Jersey boy delivered in his impressive performance, starting the show off with "Who Loves You."
I even had the "oh wow, full circle moment," when Valli sang the theme song to the movie, "Grease," and got it perfect. Funny how hearing a song from your childhood played live right in front of you has that effect.
Valli performed other songs, "Silence is Golden," which he used to take the opportunity to dedicate that one to the people running this country.
The hits also included "Dawn," "Stay" "December 1963 (Oh What a Night)" "Sherry," "Walk Like a Man," "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Bye Bye Baby," "Rag Doll" and "Let's Hang On."
What I thought was really cool, (in my humble opinion) was his performance of a parody song, "(I was Having a Ball, so I did em' All)" that he referred to as today's music, a song he performed called "Harmony," which was backed by touching film footage. In his introduction of the song he said America is really a family and it's important to come together and help each other.
He also gave big kudos to his musical director Robby Robinson.
One of the most cool attributes of Valli is how humble he was in his sincere 'thank you' to the audience for allowing him to perform all these years since Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons began in 1962.
