Although Creating Classical & Theatrical Music, KIP WINGER Still Knows How to ROCK!

This edition of "Midwest BEAT with Tom Lounges" originally aired on 89.1FM-Lakeshore Public Radio on  December 12, 2019.

GUEST:  KIP WINGER of Winger

For this installment of the program, host Tom Lounges interviews the Nashville-based, musician/composer KIP WINGER, famous for his self-named band WINGER.

This chat certainly covers the MTV glory days of the rocker's early 1980s chart success, with songs like "Seventeen" and "Headed For A Heartbreak," where all over the radio and had teenage girls screaming.

This program also goes far beyond, to showcase in both dialog and musical selections, the incredible work this now mature music-maker has created in the decades since his pop heyday.

This image is a flashback to the hunky, heart-throb Kip Winger of the MTV-'80s, when he was on top of the hair-metal scene with hits like "Seventeen" and "Heading For A Heartache."

Tom Lounges does a nice job shining a bright spotlight on the very broad swath Kip Winger has musically painted since his early hair metal heart-throb days; revealing to listeners, the classical and theatrical side of this very talented rocker sure to surprise those who only know him for his '80s radio hits.

Kip Winger performs a mid-December pre-holiday solo concert at a popular Northwest Indiana venue called THE ROOM in Highland, IN on SUNDAY, DECEMBER 15th.  Winger's set will include all of the band's  hits, some fan favorites from his solo album,s and perhaps a few surprises.

A recent Box Set of Kip's solo albums has been released for fans and shows the growth of the Winger as a solo music-maker over the years. Look for a NEW solo Kip album to be forthcoming.

Does this seasoned artist and stage performer still enjoy playing his lustful love song, "Seventeen," all these years later?  Will there be a new WINGER band album or a new Kip solo album?   Afterall, it has been years since either has done so, and it seems about time for something new.

"Tune in to discover the answer to those questions and much, much more.  It was a great pleasure to have Kip on my program," said Lounges.  "It had been over a decase sine I had the opportunity to chat with him and he was even more gracious and interesting than I remember him back in 2006."

Tom Lounges has been a region radio personality and a music journalist since 1979. For the last 35-years, he has been reporting on entertainment as a weekly columnist and feature writer for The Times newspaper.
