HEAVENLY ROLL CALL: Some of the Musical Deaths in 2020

This edition of "Midwest BEAT with Tom Lounges" was originally aired on 11-24-20 on 89.1FM-Lakeshore Public Radio.

TOPIC:  HEAVENLY ROLL CALL OF SOME ARTISTS LOST IN 2020

For this episode of "MIDWEST BEAT with Tom Lounges," show host Lounges reflects back on the year 2020 and spotlights some of the amazing and gifted artists that shuffled off this mortal coil.

While there were dozens of great talents who passed away in 2020, many more than this hour long program could cover, Tom chose some of those who were personal friends (Charlie Daniels, Spencer Davis, Gene Stewart, Joseph "Mojo" Morganfield), some others from the Midwest area (Greg Biela of Heartsfield, Marty Grebbs of The Buckinghams, John Prine, Alto Reed, etc.), some who were major artists that most music fans knew (Neil Peart, Eddie Van Halen, etc.), and others that were unsung heroes who made some great contributions but did not get the kind of recognition they deserved (Moon Martin, Alan Merrill, etc).

Each artist was remembered with a short recap on when they passed away followed by a short clip of their music.

Those artists included on this "Heavenly Roll Call" program for the year 2020 include:

Marty Grebbs, Neil Peart, Bob Shane, Kenny Rogers, Alan Merrill, Bill Withers, John Prine, Little Richard, Moon Martin, Paul Chapman, Pete Way, Charlie Daniels, Gene Stewart, Peter Green, Trini Lopez, Greg Biela, Gene Stewart, Frnaki Banelli, Lee Kerslake, Ken Hensley, Mac Davis, Spencer Davis, Helen Reddy, Eddie Van Halen, Chad Stuart, Leslie West and Alto Reed.

Tom Lounges has been a region radio personality and a music journalist since 1979. For the last 35-years, he has been reporting on entertainment as a weekly columnist and feature writer for The Times newspaper. He was also publisher and editor of the monthly tri-state entertainment magazine ("Midwest BEAT Magazine") for over two decades, he has written hundreds of features for numerous national glossy magazines over the decades, and he wrote "Liner Notes" for over a dozen albums release by Sony Records.
