Regionally Speaking, Thursday, April 6, 2017

city of east chicago

Today:  East Chicago Mayor Anthony Copeland offered his 2016 "State of the City" this week and Lakeshore Public Radio's Steven Lattimore attended the event and has a report, along with comments from the mayor.

The Lake County Council is thinking about making some changes in the amount it is setting aside as its contribution to the South Shore Line expansion project and it may be much less than earlier committed.

A bill that would change the impact that owners of solar energy panels have on their own electricity bills is moving through the General Assembly, and we hear from Indiana Public Broadcasting's Nick Janzen in more detail about it.

And we bring back our conversation with Hammond Mayor Tom McDermott Jr. about the plans for an indoor Sportsplex on land left vacant along Indianapolis Boulevard when most of the Woodmar Shopping Center was torn down.  The interview got a lot of attention on social media right after it aired.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
