Regionally Speaking, Tuesday, July 11, 2017

Porter County D.W.I. Task Force

Today:   We continue our conversation about the concerns of crime spillage from Illinois into northwest Indiana, as Portage Police Chief Troy Williams comes into the studio to talk about how his department is getting great citizen cooperation that is leading to fewer crime reports of all types -- and addressing a shift in focus on serious issues like narcotics abuse.

Jessica Renslow of the Miller Spotlight neighborhood organization joins us to talk about this Saturday's "Outdoor Adaptive Escapade" with the goal of bringing in people to several venues in Miller to learn about outdoor recreational amenities like Bike-sharing and kayaking.  Jessica also says visitors can also see two new accessible outdoor gardens as part of the Miller Garden Club's Secret Garden Walk.

The non-profit railroad history group American Passenger Rail Heritage Foundation is partnering with NICTD to bring interpretive guides onto the South Shore Line service on selected Saturdays beginning next month.  We asked Robert Tabern of the APRHF what the "Rail Rangers" will talk about.

And we revisit our conversation with Dr. Richard Berkowitz and John Olmstead about the new Surgery Center at Community Hospital in Munster.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
