Regionally Speaking, Wednesday, October 18, 2017

ADA National Network website

Today:  two conversations dealing with the laws and the rules and regulations behind the question of what is a "service animal" and what is a "comfort animal."  The recent incident at the County Line Orchard between a visitor to the business and two employees prompted my associate producer (and board op) Dee Dotson and I to begin this examination of the issues and the conversations with Peter Berg, a veteran specialist and trainer at Chicago-based Great Lakes ADA Center and Rebecca Huss, a professor at the Valparaiso University School of Law who teaches courses in animal law. More information about the ADA Center can be found online at www.adagreatlakes.com/ADA or by calling 800-949-4232.

Northwest Indiana financial advisor Greg Hammer is back to talk about the news from the U.S. Social Security Administration that there will be a two-percent "cost of living allowance" increase on Social Security benefits in 2018.  Greg talks in more detail about it and how Hoosiers can make adjustments to their finances to get the maximum benefit from it.  He also slips in some tips to deal with Halloween financial fears.

And we bring you a new edition in our "Quantum Leap" feature series from Indiana Humanities.  "Quantum Leap" is the public awareness initiative focusing on Indiana's contributions to  STEM -- science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
