Lake County government

Today:   Lake County Commissioner Jerry Tippy and Lake County Surveyor Bill Emerson join us to talk about the new Lake County Comprehensive Land Use Plan for unincorporated sections of the county  -- and of a series of public meetings, the first of which is Tuesday evening at the Lake County Government Center in Crown Point.   The County Plan Commission is seeking public comment on the new land use plan, the first one in more than 20 years.

We hear from PBS Kids Digital Vice President Sara DeWitt, who went on the TED stage recently to talk about three fears that grownups have about kids spending so much time in front of screens (television as well as computer), and why those fears are untrue.

Indiana Public Broadcasting's Annie Ropeik begins a three-part series on the Ports of Indiana today with a visit to the Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor.  She talks about the Lake Michigan port's importance to the national and world economies.

And we have Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra's Kirk Muspratt on the program today to talk about Friday's musical and vocal performance of selections from "The Mikado," the famous and very popular Gilbert and Sullivan operetta. Tickets for the program at the Bethel Church Theatre in Crown Point are still available on the NWISO web site.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
