Miller Spotlight

Today:  Kelly Anoe, Vice President with the Legacy Foundation of Lake County, is in the studio to give us a broad perspective on the art scene in the city of Gary -- including "ArtHouse: A Social Kitchen" and other very visible projects.  The Legacy Foundation is the local funding link between the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and other public philanthropists and projects and programs in Lake County.  The foundation works with "ArtHouse" and the other Knight Cities Challenge grant recipients.

South Shore Clean Cities is working with the state of Indiana on the best way to take advantage of the state's share of the multi-million-dollar settlement from Volkswagen Corp. Clean Cities executive director Carl Lisek explains the role the agency will serve in helping northwest Indiana businesses, non-profits and other groups get a share of the available funds.

Dr. Jennifer DePaoli with Civic Enterprises joins us to talk about a report that their researchers prepared  for the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation that highlights some of the key challenges that Indiana faces in improving high school graduation outcomes.  The report "Closing the Graduation Gap" offers some recommendations for improving the state's graduation rates.

And we revisit our conversation with Pastor Nate Loucks of LaPorte, about the Pax Center's next community project "Brighton Street Green Space."  "Brighton Street" will be able to use a $204,800 grant from the Healthcare Foundation of LaPorte County as seed-money for transforming a section of downtown LaPorte that is currently considered a "food desert."

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
