Indiana Economic Digest

Today:   Indiana University Northwest economics professor Micah Pollak talks about the impact that the Trump administration's "tariff war" is beginning to have on industries and jobs in northwest Indiana and the rest of the Hoosier State -- including agriculture.  The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is reporting that 812,600 Indiana jobs are supported by global trade.

We bring you another story from the Welcome Project at Valparaiso University.  The Welcome Project collects first-person stories and pairs these with intentional conversation to forge stronger ties within and across our communities.  Today, we hear from a Gary resident about her experiences in public schools that included walkout after Dr. Martin Luther King's assassination.

Wendy Smith with the Dunes Learning Center tells us about the upcoming series of Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore workshop educator classes that begin Tuesday, July 24th and end on Friday, July 27th.  Interested residents must register soon to participate in the classes and they can choose one or all four.  Registration is accepted by Thursday, July 19th online at www.duneslearningcenter.org/public.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
