Regionally Speaking, Monday, December 10, 2018

Natons Well website

Today:   We have a conversation with Marcus Martin of East Chicago-based "Grace Beyond Borders Northwest Indiana," a non-charitable public organization with a mission to combat homelessness in the Region.  They have a 30-day campaign underway called "A Night Without A Home," where Marcus sleeps with the homeless each night to raise awareness about homelessness and to solicit support for an emergency shelter.

"Northwest Indiana Gazette" blogger Ken Davidson's put out an article in the quarterly "Indiana Policy Review" about the lack of transparency in government-supported redevelopment programs using tax increment financing and other revenue sources.  He talks to us about the article and how public awareness can encourage public officials to make some important changes.  We also bring back our conversation with Carrie Napoleon, the managing director of the Lake Courthouse Foundation, about Tuesday morning's one-time-only, historic Lake County Council meeting in the historic third-floor Courtroom. This is the Lake County Courthouse's 140th anniversary.

And there's another "Quantum Leap" STEM initiative feature, this time on why the city of Fort Wayne attracted so many businesses that led to the development of the modern entertainment industry.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
