Regionally Speaking, Wednesday, December 12, 2018

Dept. of Veterans Affairs

Today:   We have a conversation with Marc Magill, the medical director of the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago, about his recent Town Hall Meeting with northwest Indiana veterans, their families and caregivers held at the Adam Benjamin Outpatient Clinic in Crown Point.  Magill says topics like the VA REACH program, an update on the ongoing concerns about veteran suicides and local veterans' concerns about the future of VA health care services came up at the meeting.

We have another edition of "GreenFleet Radio," supported by South Shore Clean Cities.  Host Carl Lisek talks with a program manager in University of Notre Dame's office of sustainability about programs underway and in the planning process on the campus in South Bend.

Scott Miley, the Statehouse reporter for the CNHI-owned newspapers in Indiana, joins us to talk more about his series of articles in the newspapers in Anderson, Kokomo and Terre Haute on Indiana township government.  Among the topics he brings up in his articles is how financially well-off some township governments are these days -- but not all of them have such robust budget surpluses.

We revisit our conversation with Indiana state Senator Mike Bohacek (R-Michiana Shores) about the bill that he and colleague Ron Alting of Lafayette are sponsoring in the next General Assembly session that adresses concerns about bias-related crimes.  And our "friend in fur" Ollie is back in the studio to answer more pet-related questions on "Ask Ollie," supported by the Humane Society of Northwest Indiana.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
