Gelsosomo's Pizzeria & Region On Tap, in Crown Point Giving Free Lunches to Kids

Zach Richey

CROWN POINT - Gelsosomo's Pizzeria & Region On Tap, in Crown Point is giving free bag lunches to kids for as long as the business is able.

Peter Anderson, Owner of Gelsosomo's, says the business starting handing the free lunches out on Wednesday.  He said an article he read on Facebook helped inspire him to feed kids he previously didn't know were hungry.

"Some kids the only good meal that they get everyday is when they go to school," Anderson says.  "I think a lot of times at least myself I'm naive to that sort of thing.  So I read that article, and you know what it just got laid on my heart, this is somewhere where we can serve."

Anderson told Lakeshore Public Radio what is included in the sack lunch.

"So there's a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, if you have an allergy we'll give you a ham sandwich," Anderson says. "There's a bag of chips, there's a cookie, there's a little Dumb Dumb sucker and there's a bottle of water."

Anderson says it's an uncertain time for everyone, including himself, and his business is just trying to survive like everyone else, but the cost of giving out the free lunches doesn't compare to the joy that he, his family and his staff gets from doing something that actually matters.

Anderson said that he did take some donations via PayPal that enabled him to pay for the water that is going into the lunches.

Gelsosomo's hands out the free lunches from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and is at

11319 Broadway, in Crown Point.
