State Rep. Earl Harris, Jr. Addresses Racial Disparities in COVID-19

Indiana House Democratic Caucus

State Representative Earl Harris Jr, Vice Chair of the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus recently joined “Regionally Speaking” host Chris Nolte to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on the African-American community. Black Hoosiers make up less than 10 percent of the state’s population but account for about 18 percent of COVID cases and more than 20 percent of deaths from the virus. The lawmakers recently sent a detailed letter to Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb with recommendations including: targeted treatment and testing for COVID-19 in African American communities, racial bias training for health care workers, and expansive paid leave for workers.

Lakeshore Public Radio 89.1FM, initially known as The Lakeshore 89.1FM, first hit the airwaves across Northwest Indiana on January 19, 2010. The station was created after the board of directors for Lakeshore Public Media, which also operates our sister station Lakeshore PBS, saw the need for regional access to a public radio station in order to provide localized up-to-the-minute news and information for NW Indiana residents.
