Gary Police Looking for Information on Alleged Shooting Incident

Gary Police Department

GARY- Gary Police are looking for information in connection to a shooting of a 15 year-old.
According to Gary Police Department Public Information Officer Lieutenant Dawn Westerfield, officers responded to the 800 block of West 36th Avenue at around 9:15 a.m. Thursday for reports of a gunshot victim.

"When the officers arrived they did discover a 15 year-old male from Gary who had a gunshot wound to the leg.  That victim was transported by ambulance to the hospital for treatment and we had information that the suspect was in the wooded area nearby," Westerfield says.

The 40 year-old suspect, who is a white male from Whiting, was extracted from the wooded area without further incident.  He is known to the juvenile and remains in custody as the investigation is ongoing.

The shooting victim is also a white male.  Westerfield would not elaborate on how the two know each other or what the relationship is between the alleged shooter and the victim.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Sergeant Wolf at 219-881-1210 or call the Crime Tip Line at 866-CRIME-GP.
