City of LaPorte Considering Its Own Ambulance Service

City of LaPorte

LAPORTE - The city of LaPorte is strongly considering getting its own ambulance service.  City officials want to be able to respond quicker to city calls as the current service is shared countywide among LaPorte County.

LaPorte Fire Chief Andy Snyder told the "Times" giving the city of LaPorte its own ambulance service may also result in the city breaking even financially or maybe even may gaining some revenue.

LaPorte County Emergency Medical Service, that's operated by county government currently handles the medical calls for the entire county, stretching the staff a little too thin, according to Snyder.

Snyder said the biggest challenge in getting the service launched is raising the estimated $2.5 million in startup costs for adding 14 additional people and equipment.
