Regionally Speaking: The 12th Annual Gary International Black Film Festival

Gary International Film Fest

The 12th Annual Gary International Black Film Festival commences Thursday, October 6, 2022 with an All Black Pre-Funk Art Experience at the RailCats stadium. The 2022 festival will feature both virtual and in-person offerings including a drive-in movie night at Indiana University Northwest. The weekend will conclude with an award ceremony celebrating the inaugural GIBFF Fellows. The film festival will stay true to its roots as an international diaspora festival with documentary and narrative films from nine countries across the globe. Lakeshore Public Radio's Dee Dotson spoke with festival founder Karen Toering about why she continues to shine a light on Gary with this huge event.

As co-host and producer of Regionally Speaking, Dee is responsible for connecting with northwest Indiana community newsmakers to share their stories with the Lakeshore Public Radio listening audience. She believes in the power of storytelling to engag, teach and change lives. Prior to working at Lakeshore Public Radio, Dee enjoyed giving her time, talent, and resources to various community organizations. Dee believes in servant leadership. Her favorite quote is "Leadership is service not position." by Tim Fargo.
