Innovation Underway for the Future of Steel

EAST CHICAGO - An ArcelorMittal spokeperson says innovation is underway at the Northwest Indiana steel company.  It's for that reason David White, ArcelorMittal Director of Process Research in Global Research and Development, says he believes the future of steel is very bright.

White, who is based at ArcelorMittal's East Chicago location, says the company is currently  making products for the automotive industry, that he says will make automobiles more efficient and safer.  The company is making new products for other industries, outside of automotive.

White says the company is working on a lot of innovative new processes to be able to make the steel of the future.  ArcelorMittal has 12 research laboratories around the world and all the labs work together on problems and on new product development and new process development.

ArcelorMittal's East Chicago plant just celebrated 50 years in their building on Columbus Drive.  The company had several events to celebrate the milestone including an open house for ArcelorMittal employees and a large family picnic.  The steel company held a VIP event in September, in which dignitaries were given a tour of the laboratories.
