Lake County is out of the red status on this week's COVID-19 map from the Indiana Department of Health. It's now coded orange, which is less severe but still indicates a high spread of the virus.

Only three other counties are in the orange this week: Pulaski, LaGrange, and Adams. The rest of the state remains coded red.

Lake County currently has the state's lowest seven-day positivity rate at 10.5 percent, but in neighboring Newton County, that rate is 29 percent. Newton County also has Northwest Indiana's lowest vaccination rate, with only 41 percent of eligible residents fully vaccinated. That's compared to 55 percent in Lake County and 61 percent in Porter County.

The number of Hoosiers hospitalized with COVID is the lowest it's been since November.
