Uran attends final Crown Point Council meeting as mayor

Valpo Life website

Crown Point Mayor David Uran presided over his last city council meeting Monday. He'll be stepping down in the coming weeks to take over as president and CEO of the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority.

Uran told council members it was a pleasure and honor working with them, but said improving and growing the community was a team effort.

"Crown Point's doing very, very well. It's going to move forward. The baton's going to get passed. But you guys have elevated my ability to be marketable somewhere else, so I'm indebted to you guys for that, as well, so thank you very much," he said.

Uran compared the role of mayor to the coach of a sports team, and he's looking to expand that to a regional level. "We just wanted to sprinkle the infield, so to say, in Northwest Indiana, and do some of the great things we've done here in Crown Point throughout Northwest Indiana. And if we can do that, Crown Point will become stronger, but the region will be much better for it," Uran added.

He said tourism brings in disposable income from outside sources, providing more money for communities to invest in police and fire protection, as well as infrastructure.

A Crown Point Democratic Party caucus will meet to choose someone to complete Uran's term as mayor.
