Lake, Porter counties report low voter turnout

Despite a number of contested races, voter turnout was relatively low for Tuesday's primary. The unofficial results from Porter County showed a turnout of 16.5 percent of registered voters. Lake County's was even lower at 12.7 percent.

Fifty-three percent of Porter County voters chose the Republican Party ballot, while 45 percent chose the Democratic ballot.

The most popular race in Lake County was for the Democratic nominee for sheriff, with almost 28,000 votes. Lake County's biggest Republican race was for U.S. Representative, with almost 16,000 votes.
