"Beating the Odds" New Album from Local Legend Eric Lambert!

This edition of  "MIDWEST BEAT with Tom Lounges" originally aired on TUESDAY, APRIL 20, 2020.

Guest:  ERIC LAMBERT (with Char)

For this edition of Lakeshore Public Radio's twice weekly "Midwest BEAT with Tom Lounges," the show's host/producer Tom Lounges chatted by phone with ERIC LAMBERT, one of the perennial region music-makers of the modern rock-infused Americana sound.  Also on the phone to chime in was Lambert's partner and collaborator, Char.

Lambert and Char discussed the experience of their first time collaborations in the studio while recording the tracks for his long awaited new album, "Beating The Odds," produced at Hammond's Thunderclap Recording Studio with the artist's longtime engineer John Carpenter at the console.

Eric & Char -- a new partnership and a new sound for one of the Region's best loved acoustic pickers and songwriters.

Lambert also discussed his personal evolution as a songwriting and how he came to follow the new approach to writing that he has taken, a path that has found him creating some of the most emotional, impassioned and soul-deep songs of his decades long career to date.

The new songs this artist has given us are deep-rooted and topical; addressing things like the Vietnam War ("Tino"), domestic abuse ("Never Goin' Back Home"), child abuse ("The Dirt & The Cigarettes"), and how racism and hatred are learned responses ("We Need to Learn to Love").

While there IS some considerable darkness throughout this 13-song album in terms of subject matter, there are also some very upbeat, toe-tapping tunes as well.  Among them are the title track, "The Music Set Me Free," and the Celtic-flavored "Green," all heard in this broadcast.

On this program, Lakeshore listener's were treated to the first time ever global radio broadcasts of several of these hard-hitting selections from the "Beating The Odds"  album.   More on this artist at: www.ericlambert.com.
