The Valparaiso Family YMCA is proud to present the 2026 Ringing in Spring 5k Run/Walk! Start your year off on the right foot by kicking off this year's running season with NWI’s largest springtime race for 33 years! Join us in celebrating our 33rd anniversary by ringing the springtime bell, signaling the end of NWI’s cold, harsh winter and the fresh start of springtime. Run through beautiful Valparaiso neighborhoods and keep an eye out on the course for bright little daffodils welcoming you into the new season.

100% of registration proceeds benefit the Valparaiso Family YMCA Annual Campaign, providing financial scholarship assistance for programs, membership, and childcare services. Our mission is simple - To be a charitable non-profit organization that improves the quality of life in our communities through programs and services that strengthen the spirit, mind, and body for all.

Join us for the Wild Ones Gibson Woods Chapter Annual Native Plant Sale — one of the best spots in Northwest Indiana to find plants that actually thrive in our local soil and climate.

All plants are native to our region, meaning they support local pollinators, birds, and wildlife while being naturally low-maintenance once established. No pesticides, no fuss.

What to expect:
🌿 A wide variety of native perennials, grasses, and wildflowers
☀️ Plants organized by sun exposure and soil type so you can shop by your yard's conditions
💵 Cash and card accepted
🅿️ Free parking on site

Whether you have a sunny dry yard, a shady wet corner, or anything in between — we'll have something for you. Volunteers on hand to answer questions and help you pick the right plants.

All are welcome — first-time gardeners to seasoned naturalists. Come early for the best selection!

Join American Greyhound for our 14th annual Winning Hearts Benefit Gala on Saturday, May 2 at Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City!

Tickets include a seated dinner, open bar, and access to our live and silent auctions - all for just $80/person! Doors open at 5:00 pm CT - enjoy appetizers and drinks while perusing the huge array of silent auction items. Dinner is served at 7:00 pm CT, with the live auction following shortly after.

American Greyhound is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 nonprofit based out of Hobart, whose mission is finding loving homes for sighthounds in need, including retired racing greyhounds, Spanish galgos, and more. All proceeds raised will go to help provide vet care, transportation, and other essentials to the hounds, so please join us for a great night at Blue Chip!

Note: It is not necessary to enter the casino floor to attend this event, so all ages are welcome! Kids' tickets are $40.

Deep River R/C Flying Club is hosting its 17th Annual Open House Saturday, June 6th at Deep River County Park. Learn about out Deep River Flying Club and fly a fully functional radio control model airplane FREE! We will be featuring an R/C Flight Simulator, Flight Demonstrations, Free Handouts & Club Information with display aircraft. Deep River R/C Flying Club’s field is located at 8163 Ainsworth Road, Hobart, IN. Flying will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday will be the rain date. Admission is Free!
