Porter County Undercover Drug Court Operations Changing Hands

Porter County Prosecuting Attorney Brian Gensel

With the new challenges in the fight against drugs, brought on by the Opiod addiction epidemic, the operation of the undercover Porter County Drug Court is changing hands from the Porter County Prosecutors Office to the Sheriff's Department.  Porter County Prosecuting Attorney Brian Gensel says since the Sheriff's Department has taken an expanded role in battling the drug problem in Porter County through the Heroin Overdose Response Team and through several federal initiatives, it was decided that now was an appropriate time to combine all the efforts within the Sheriff's department.  Gensel says the hope is that implementing the new plan will lead to more coordination of effort, a minimizing of duplicate efforts, eliminating the dealers of the drugs and getting help for the people who can be helped.
