Regionally Speaking, Thursday, July 20, 2017

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from Wikipedia

On this Reporters Roundtable Thursday, we find out more about the major news stories of the week from the reporters who covered them.  With us in the studio is Post-Tribune reporter Javonte Anderson and by phone are his Post-Tribune colleagues Carrie Napoleon and Greg Tejeda and -- from the LaPorte Herald-Argus and Michigan City News-Dispatch -- reporter Jon Gard.

Lakeshore Public Radio's Steven Lattimore also offers us his report on the reaction to the impending closing of the Ultra Supermarket in Highland.  Other topics covered this week include a vote by East Chicago City Council going "on record" as opposing the U.S. EPA's disposing PCBs and other toxins scooped from the city's industrial canal in an open-air facility -- A replacement East Chicago City Council member -- Lake County Council and Sheriff John Buncich on more assistance to the County Jail's mental health unit -- and which streets and roads in Gary are getting resurfaced this summer, the first year of a five-year improvement program supported, in part, by local funding.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
