HAMMOND - Hammond Police found a man dead in a living room of a residence during a welfare check. A police department spokesperson says officers responded to the home just after 9 a.m. Monday in 7000 block of Birch Avenue.
Public Information Officer Lieutenant Steve Kellogg says when officers made entry into the home they discovered a white male deceased in the front room. He had a single gunshot wound to the head. The male was identified as 57-year-old John Horvat of Hammond.
Hammond police detectives are investigating this as a homicide. They say there was no forced entry into the home and no signs of a burglary.
