Regionally Speaking, Wednesday, January 10, 2018

Darron Cummings, The Associated Press

Today:  Andy Downs of the Mike Downs Center for Indiana Politics at I.U.-Purdue Fort Wayne offers an analysis of Tuesday night's "State of the State" address from Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb.  The Governor made his comments before a joint session of the Indiana House and Senate at the Statehouse.

We talked with Byron Martin, the director of multicultural programs at Valparaiso University and professor Heath Carter, the program co-chairman, about this year's Martin Luther King Jr. event to be held on Monday, January 15th.  This year marks the 28th annual observance of the life and work of Dr. King, and keynote speaker this year is noted investigative journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones.  We also talk about the companion observances planned at Purdue University Northwest and Indiana University Northwest.

This "Lakeshore Focus" conversation with Keith Kirkpatrick from Lakeshore PBS focuses on the major news stories of 2017.  Keith's guests are "Post-Tribune" reporter-columnist Jerry Davich and "Times" editor Crista Zivanovic.

And Indiana Public Broadcasting's Nick Janzen has a feature on renewable energy -- solar energy, in particular -- and how Hoosier legislators are changing the future.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
