Regionally Speaking, Tuesday, May 22, 2018

Today:   we look at last week's Regional Transportation Summit, sponsored by the Gary Public Transportation Corp. and held at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond.  The Summit brought together a number of public officials as well as planners, administrators and advocacy groups to explore the future of public transportation in northwest Indiana.

The Sojourner Truth House in Gary is getting ready for its 18th annual Walk, which is a fundraising effort for the facility that assists the Region's homeless and at-risk women and children,  This year's Walk will be held on Saturday, June 9th. We talked with Sherita Brewer about the event.

We talk with State Senator Eddie Melton (D-Merrillville) about the recent special General Assembly session, the bills considered and passed and their impact.  He addresses at length House Bill 1315, the measure that has the most impact on the Gary Community School Corp.  Melton offered an impassioned speech on the floor of the Indiana Senate against the bill's provisions during the special session.

And Indianapolis Motor Speedway historian Donald Davidson joins us from Speedway to talk about Sunday's 102nd running of the 500 Mile Race -- often referred to as "the greatest spectacle in racing."

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
