Northwest Indiana’s public radio station, Lakeshore Public Radio – 89.1 FM, is bringing “Planet Money and How I Built This,” and “Blues America” to its weekend line-up.
“These programs are exceptional, and continue our mission of providing Northwest Indiana with quality programming that not only informs listeners, but enriches their lives as well as entertains them,” says Tom Maloney, Vice President of Radio Operations.
“Planet Money” can be heard every Saturday at 3:00 PM and Sunday at 5:00 PM. The program explains the economy with award-winning storytelling with a deep dive, roll up your sleeves styled-journalism. The “Planet Money” team includes Robert Smith, Jacob Goldstein, Stacey Vanek Smith, Noel King, Ailsa Chang and Kenny Malone.
Guy Raz hosts “How I Built This,” heard every Saturday at 3:30 PM and Sunday at 5:30 PM. Innovators, entrepreneurs, and idealists take us through the often challenging journeys they took to build their now iconic companies. Featured guests include the founders of Lyft, Patagonia, Zappos, Spanx, Samuel Adams, and Instagram.
Lakeshore Public Radio listeners and members know Guy Raz through his years as the host of the “Ted Radio Hour,” which is heard every Saturday at 1:00 PM, and Sunday at 11:00 AM.
Adding to its Friday night blues line-up, “Blues America” will be heard every Friday at midnight (that’s Friday going into Saturday). “Blues America” host Drew Verbis has produced records for R.L. Burnside, Louisiana Red and the last album released by the great Robert Jr. Lockwood. He also contributed to the last album released by Mojo Buford. Drew was the manager and booking agent for Louisiana Red and has worked behind the scenes in support of the blues for 20 years; much of which with his friend and mentor, harmonica ace, Bob Corritore.
“Lakeshore Public Radio believes in bringing programming that isn’t available anywhere else in the Chicagoland market, and of course, blues music is essential to Chicago and Northwest Indiana’s music scenes. ‘Blues America’ has been on my radar for quite some time and I know that listeners will love Drew’s show,” says Maloney.
