Regionally Speaking, Tuesday, November 27, 2018

Today:   Lake County Surveyor Bill Emerson Jr joins us to talk about the work that his drainage crews've done in clearing away more debris this summer and autumn that was clogging some of the county's drainage ditches.  His department is responsible for managing more than 600 miles of waterways outside the cities and towns and in unincorporated Lake County townships.  Cleaner ditches means less possibility of flooding.  Emerson also says the efficient use of his crews saved taxpayers thousands of dollars this year.  Later, another conversation with a new member of the Lake County legislative delegation: Rep. Chris Chyung (D-15), who defeated incumbent Hal Slager by 82 votes earlier this month.

We have another conversation from the Welcome Project at Valparaiso University.  The Welcome Project collects first-person stories and pairs these with intentional conversation to help forge stronger ties within and across our communities. Today's conversation is with a woman who faced personal and professional hardships.  And to go along with our conversation with Bill Emerson on keeping waterways cleared, we bring back our recent conversation with Little Calumet River Basin Development Commission executive director Dan Repay.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
