NORTHWEST INDIANA-Criminal charges could come down for a 22-year-old St. John man who allegedly took his former girlfriend across state lines.
The "Times" reports Alex Curry-Fishtorn could be charged in the weekend disappearance of 16-year-old Madison Elizabeth Yancy Eddlemon.
Eddlemon's disappearance sparked a nationwide Amber Alert to assist in her recovery. The statewide Amber Alert was declared just after 6 a.m. Sunday, August 18th that described Eddlemon as a 16-year-old white female, 5 feet 1 inches tall, 97 pounds, blonde hair with green eyes, and last seen wearing a black hoodie with white tribal and blue jeans with tears and shin high boots with a black lace choker.
It had said she was last seen on Saturday, August 17, at 9:00 am in Crown Point and was believed to be in extreme danger.
It had described Curry-Fishtorn, the suspect, as a 22-year-old white male, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 158 pounds, brown hair with brown eyes, and driving a dark grey 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt with Indiana license plate number 645RIS.
It had asked anyone with any information to contact the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez told the "Times" that Eddlemon was first reported missing early Saturday.
He car was found parked at a stop sign at Cleveland Street and Sherwood Drive in Crown Point with her clothes and other belongings still inside.
She was found safe in Arkansas on Sunday, with assistance from the FBI.
Curry-Fishtorn was taken into custody without incident and must now be extradited from Arkansas to Indiana.
Eddlemon's mother Nichole Cain told the "Times" the family is thrilled and is anxiously waiting to see her daughter.
Curry-Fishtorn reportedly had a history of being controlling and abusive to Eddlemon and was upset when the relationship ended. The young man allegedly began harassing and stalking Eddlemon in March and the family notificed police and filed a no-contact order that same month. Eddlemon was reportedly afraid Curry-Fishtorn would hurt her.
The Lake County Sheriff's office is working with the local prosecutor’s office to have Curry-Fishtorn's bond revoked, as well as determine what the charges will be.
It's unknown if the teen girl was taken by force, or if she went with Curry-Fishtorn voluntarily.
Eddlemon will be a junior this year at Crown Point High School. The first day of school for the 2019 - 2020 academic year is Tuesday August 20th.
The Lake County Sheriff's office intends to conduct a through investigation.
