City of Gary to Host Final Produce Distribution of the Season Saturday Morning

City of Gary

GARY - A food distribution program that was launched to help Gary residents in the wake of COVID-19 is wrapping up tomorrow/Saturday.

Gary Mayor Jerome Prince announced today (Friday) that the City of Gary and Vine Line Produce Distribution will host the final produce giveaway of the summer Saturday, August 29th, beginning at  9:30 at the Genesis Convention Center.

Michael Gonzalez, Communications Director for the city of Gary says Prince and City of Gary team members will distribute boxes of fresh fruit and vegetables to 1,680 Gary residents as part of the Mayor’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Initiative.

The giveaway is an important step in providing Gary families facing financial strains caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each 25 lb. box will contain apples, oranges, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, asparagus, cabbage, zucchini, bell peppers, cucumbers, and lettuce.
