Lakeshore Public Radio Wins Big In Indiana AP Awards

MERRILLVILLE - Lakeshore Public Radio – 89.1 FM won 3 first place 2016 Indiana Associated Press Broadcasters Association awards, on Saturday, April 15, 2017. Reporter Steven Lattimore won big, taking home "Best Reporter" as well as "Best Enterprise Story." Lakeshore Public Radio also won for “Best Community Impact” for “Community Conversations,” a collaboration between Lakeshore Public Radio and Lakeshore PBS (the TV sister station to Lakeshore Public Radio).

“His work as ‘Best Reporter’ truly showcases the incredible journalistic value that Steven brings to the table, each day he covers a story,” said Tom Maloney, Vice President of Radio Operations, about Lattimore’s victory. 

Steven Lattimore commented, “It's great to have the support of our CEO, James Muhammad, and the Radio news department to do the kind of stories that our listeners want. I am happy that the work was recognized but I could not do it without a lot of support.”

“Steven’s experience in both Television and radio allows for him to have a unique look at each story he covers, from features to day-to-day news,” stated Mr. Maloney.

Lakeshore’s work with “Community Conversations,” hosted by Garrard McClendon, Television host for “CounterPoint with Garrard McClendon,” brought together community leaders from Gary, in Lake County and Valparaiso in Porter County, in a multi-platform experience to discuss race, justice, community, and policing in the Region.

President and CEO James Muhammad said, “I am very proud of the work of the Lakeshore team. Our community conversations on Race, Justice, Community and Policing are true community efforts with many partners in the region that make it possible. I am elated that our work in promoting civil discourse was acknowledged by our Indiana peers in media. It speaks to the dedication we all have as citizens to our community of Northwest Indiana.”

The third “Community Conversation” aired on April 12th, from LaPorte County.
