Originally Aired: 11-1-19

This edition of "MIDWEST BEAT with Tom Lounges" originally aired on November 1, 2019 on 89.1FM-Lakeshore Public Radio

Folk/Americana music troubadour Ellis Paul is celebrating 30 years as a touring musician, having released 18 adult albums and two children’s albums, along with having published two children's books.  For that, he has garnered many awards.  More: www.ellispaul.com.

Ellis Paul swung by Tom Lounges Record Bin to perform a couple of tunes at that Sunday's "Open Mic" while on his way to that evening's Front Porch Music performance

Paul’s 20th collection of original songs, "The Storyteller’s Suitcase," was funded by his fans, self-produced, and marks his first ever release on his own Rosella Records imprint.  It came out May of this year and spent June and July in the "Top 5" on the Folk DJs Chart.

Ellis' music catalogue has been largely inspired by being on the road as a touring musician for 30 years. “It’s the adventure, the audience, and the loves you discover along the way,” says Paul about what inspires him.  “My favorite line on the (new) album is  -- ‘A song is just a skeleton key that can open any palace door.’”

This world-traveling folkie has performed with many other notable artists durng his musical journey through life and shares some the stories of those encounters and some of the lessons he has learned during his interview here with Lakeshore's Tom Lounges.  This latest collection of songs has become a best selling release for Ellis, which is impressive since he did pretty much everything on the album -- most of the writings, the performing, the production and releasing it via his own label.  Great job from a very talented artist who deserves to be much more famous than he is, but that hopefully will soon change as the world catches up to him.

Tom Lounges has been a region radio personality and a music journalist since 1979. For the last 35-years, he has been reporting on entertainment as a weekly columnist and feature writer for The Times newspaper. He was also publisher and editor of the monthly tri-state entertainment magazine ("Midwest BEAT Magazine") for over two decades, he has written hundreds of features for numerous national glossy magazines over the decades, and he wrote "Liner Notes" for over a dozen albums release by Sony Records.
