We've made it through one summer heat wave, but more are on the way so Valparaiso city officials are reminding residents without air conditioning or with with inadequate cooling about the city's cooling centers -- open when the heat index reaches 100 degrees for consecutive days:
- Valparaiso YMCA, 1202 Cumberland Crossing, open Mon. through Fri. 5:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. - Sat. t:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. -- Sun. 12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Porter County Public Library, Valparaiso Branch, 103 Jefferson St., open Mon. through Thurs. 9:00a.m. to 9:00 p.m. -- Fri. 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. -- Sat. only 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Vale Park Enrichment Center at Banta, 605 Beech St., open Mon. through Fri. 8:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 1511 LaPorte Avenue, open every day 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
