Regionally Speaking, Tuesday, October 9, 2018

Darron Cummings/Associated Press

Today:   Purdue University Northwest English Literature professor Carolyn Boiarsky joins us to talk about her latest book that looks into the effects of miscommunication within organizational communications.  She mentions models of good communications by Enbridge Pipeline Company when it began its puipeline expansion project through Griffith, and she cites examples of miscommunication between engineers and managers prior to the 1992 Chicago flood and the BP-Deepwater Horizon oil rig spill.  Her insights help writers, scientists and engineers imform their leaders and the community about a potential problem.

We bring you another conversation from the Welcome Project at Valparaiso University.  The Welcome Project collects first-person stories and pairs there with intentional conversation to help forge stronger ties within and across our communities.

And we have excerpts from the post-debate news conference held after the first U.S. Senate candidates' debate Monday night.  Libertarian Party candidate Lucy Brenton and incumbent Senator Joe Donnelly (D) participated in the event, and Republican candidate Mike Braun declined the opportunity to take reporters' questions at Purdue University Northwest in Westville.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
