A six-year-old girl is dead and four other people were hurt in a crash on I-80/94 Wednesday. Indiana State Police say it happened around 1:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes, east of Burr.
Troopers believe a Nissan Altima was stopped in the right lane, when it was rear-ended by a semi pulling a trailer loaded with U.S. mail. That caused what state police call "catastrophic damage."
The two adults and three children in the Nissan had serious, life-threatening injuries, but one child died on the way to the hospital. Troopers say none of the three children were properly restrained in child safety seats.
State police say the crash investigation is still in its early stages.
