Motorcyclist dies in crash on I-80/94

Indiana State Police say the motorcyclist who died in a crash on I-80/94 Tuesday was trying to pass traffic by riding between the lanes. Troopers say it happened just after 7:00 p.m. in the eastbound lanes between Burr and Grant.

Police believe the sport-style motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed along the skip line that divides the lanes. When the motorcyclist tried to pass a semi, they apparently hit the back of the truck and lost control. That caused the motorcycle to crash and catch on fire. Troopers say Good Samaritans stopped and immediately began to perform CPR, but the rider died at the scene.

Indiana State Police remind motorcyclists that riding the skip lines is illegal in Indiana and extremely dangerous. They also remind drivers to expect more motorcycles, as warmer weather approaches.
