Regionally Speaking, December 16, 2021

Today: In this “Reporters Roundtable Thursday,” we look back at 2021’s major news stories and ask the reporters who wrote most of them to talk about them.

“Times” chief political reporter Dan Carden is on “Regionally Speaking” first, to review the stories which all involved, in some way, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in northwest Indiana. He covers stories with the General Assembly which will carry over into 2022, political boundary redistricting, gaming in the Region (mainly with the new Hard Rock Casino in Gary) and a peek at the next Legislative session which begins next month.

“Times” business reporter Joseph Pete then speaks at length about recovery of the Region’s business sector from the pandemic and the businesses which haven’t recovered as well from COVID-19. Joseph also talks about local employment and the “Great Resignation.”
