Kankakee River headwaters near Crumstown, Indiana

Today: Scott Pelath, executive director of the Kankakee River Basin and Yellow River Basin Development Commisson, is on "Regionally Speaking" to talk about the organization and what is planned for 2022 – “a lot going on this year.” The Commission is responsible for water resource planning and development on the rivers in eight counties, including Lake, Porter, Newton, Jasper and LaPorte Counties. Much of the work involves finding solutions to flooding issues along both rivers, since they flow west into Illinois. We bring you another conversation from the Welcome Project at Valparaiso University. Indiana University president Pamela Whitten came to the I.U. Northwest campus to watch teams of nursing school students participate in what's being called "Sim Wars" -- a simulation-based competition of different types of patient care. She talks about the event and other topics. And we have another Indiana Election 2022 conversation, this one with former LaPorte mayor and state government official Blair Milo -– who is running in the May 3rd Republican Party primary election for the chance to face incumbent Congressman Frank Mrvan in November.
