Regionally Speaking, December 9, 2022

Many of the Means Brothers’ homes remain across the city. This Tudor cottage along Jefferson Street appeared in an advertisement from the December 5, 1941, edition of the Gary American newspaper.

Today: The month of November recognized National Family Caregivers Month as well as National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Month so we wanted to spend time focused on caregiving. We’re speaking with LaVonne Jarrett, Director of the VASIA program a collaboration with Franciscan Health and the Lake County Superior Courts. The program trains and supervises court appointed legal guardians for the elderly and incapacitated.  Economists across the country say concerns about a recession are real…but will those concerns have an effect on consumer spending this holiday season? But up first, Yejide Ekunkonye is a Gary activist leading a campaign to preserve and honor the legacy of the Means Manor …a community once dubbed “the showplace of Gary”.  All of that on this edition of Regionally Speaking.
