  • Portage and Chesterton residents have a chance to meet with their state lawmakers this weekend, ahead of the 2024 legislative session.
  • Gary gun shops are now required to turn their sales records over to the police department if they go out of business. The city council approved the requirement in an ordinance last week.
  • Changes are coming to the Gary Police Department. Three months after Gary officials announced a nationwide search for a new police chief and a policy review with the Indiana State Police, an update on their progress was given Wednesday.
  • Today: Former state Senator Karen Tallian and current Senator Rodney Pol, Jr. are on "Regionally Speaking" to talk about a summer General Assembly study committee which will look into the potential health benefits of THC products, including marijuana, Delta 8 and Delta 9. It is not known, however, if they will examine decriminalizing marijuana. Both Tallian and Pol discuss that point, since legislative leaders sent the issue to a study committee on public health, behavorial health and human services. The study committee recommendations are advisory only, but those recommendations are considered serious enough from which to create bills which could come up next session. We also have local reaction and commentary to the Uvalde, Texas school shooting from Laura Wynn, who founded Indiana Parenting Institute. She offers some tips for parents to help their youngsters deal with the issue of feeling safe in school.

Some of the measures will be coming up in summer study sessions. "Post-Tribune" reporter Carole Carlson is also on the program to talk about stories she put out in print and online recently, some of them centered around the Gary Community Schools.
