Regionally Speaking Host; Morning Edition Host

 

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired  weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.

He has more than three decades of radio news and public affairs program experience, working at some of the top stations in the state including WASK-AM in Lafayette and WIBC-AM and Network Indiana in Indianapolis. Nolte’s public radio experience includes WFYI-FM in Indianapolis and WFIU-FM in Bloomington.

Before joining Lakeshore Public Radio he was the morning host at WKBV-AM in Richmond, Indiana.

  • This conversation is with Geminus Prevention Services prevention assistant Dezimon Alicea, with the “Supporting Addiction Free Environments In Lake County” program. It is the county’s coalition against substance use, abuse and misuse among adults and adolescents. He talks about SAFE and about its making available to the public the patented Deterra System – a scientifically-proven product that renders drugs useless and aids in their safe disposal. Ends with “have a healthier Indiana” and cue to the break.
  • The book, published by Reedy Press, offers ideas for road trips, day trips and weekend getaways throughout the Calumet Region. Explorations include hidden NIKE missile silos, secret spots to photograph the jets taking off for the Chicago Air and Water Show, singing porta-potties, and a lot more. Includes color photos, many of which were taken by the author.
  • Dan Milisavljevi, an assistant professor of physics and astronomy at Purdue University, who is one of very few scientists who studies massive star explosions and their debris fields. These explosions and their remnants often produce space’s most dazzling and colorful images. He is a leading researcher of how astronomical objects change over time. This burgeoning field of study is called time-domain astronomy.
  • Samara House curator Linda Eales talks about just-underway renovation of the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Samara House near the Purdue University campus in West Lafayette. She speaks on the house itself and the amount of work which will be done to preserve the landmark.
  • Nick Pamperin, executive director of the VA’s Veterans Readiness and Education program talks about a revised and updated program to help transitioning veterans and returning veterans with life-changing disabilities to get help in education and training, etc. to move into a career.
  • Today: Dezimon Alicea, a prevention assistant at Geminus Prevention Services, is on "Regionally Speaking" to talk about "SAFE In Lake County" and how the organization helps residents in the fight against substance use, abuse and misuse. He also describes a program available to the public which uses a scientifically-proven product to render drugs useless and safe to dispose. "Times of Northwest Indiana" reporter and author Joseph Pete talks about his latest book "Secret Northwest Indiana: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful and Obscure." And we find out more about an organization called "We Are The Village, Inc." and its accompanying podcast to help parents who have autistic children.
  • This is a cut & copy segment on the baby formula supply issues, with Purdue University professor Kameron Moding and a statement from the Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Health on the health implications of the supply issue.
  • Youth workers, the people who spend their professional time and talent caring for children and youth are crucial to a kid’s success. Indiana Youth Institute President and CEO Tami Silverman was on “Regionally Speaking” to discuss Thank a Youth Worker Day as a reminder to us to appreciate youth workers that have shaped our lives and the lives of our children.
  • Crown Point Mayor David Uran is resigning from his position effective June 2, 2022. Lake County Democratic Central Committee Jim Weiser was on “Regionally Speaking” to discuss a citywide Democratic Party caucus to be held to select someone to fill the mayoral vacancy on the same day.
  • The NIPSCO Gary Business Office, which serves customers in Gary and the surrounding areas hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony May 17, 20222 to recognize it’s reopening. The location has been a staple in the community for many years. It closed more than two years ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The decision to reopen was made with the safety of customers and employees as a top priority.
