A stretch of Austin Avenue in the Schererville and St. John area will be closed for drainage repair this week. Austin will be closed between 77th and 85th Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each day. The Lake County Highway Department's official detour uses 77th, Cline and 85th.
Meanwhile, bicyclists using the Monon Trail in Hammond and Munster may have to find a different route. The trail is now closed from 173rd to Ridge Road, as work continues on the West Lake Corridor commuter rail project. That closure is expected to last for the next two years. Cyclists are asked to use Hohman Avenue as a detour.
